Because of the many health risks associated with being overweight or obese, it is important to know if your weight is within a healthy range. Many doctors, health organizations and insurance companies now use a BMI or Body Mass Index calculator to screen for weight status.
Our BMI calculator is easy to use. Simply select your height in feet and inches, then enter your weight in pounds. Click the calculate BMI button and your index and rating will be shown on the right.
You don't have flash installed to use our BMI Calculator. Please use the one at the CDC web site. CDC BMI Calculator Link
Body Mass Index (BMI) calculates body fat percentage based on a persons height and weight. The calculator shown here is for adults. Available on the CDC (USA Center for Disease Control) site is BMI calculator for children and teens.
BMI calculators provide a quick and easy way to check your weight status. Keep in mind that the BMI calculator is a simple tool used for initial screening rather than diagnosis. Reliability may vary. Because BMI is calculated using total body weight and not body fatness, some very athletic or muscular individuals may have a BMI score in the overweight range but not have a high percentage of body fat.
At Peak Physique, we use the BMI as one fitness assessment measurement. We also evaluate body composition by electrical impedance and/or skin calipers to determine body fat percentage.
